Wednesday 25 January 2012 – Robert Burns Day! and Condemnation and Grace …

One of the poems of Rabbie Burns is “To a Mouse” and here are my Dad’s favourite lines “The best laid plans of mice and men often go astray”:
But Mousie, thou are no thy-lane,
In proving foresight may be vain:
The best laid schemes o’ Mice an’ Men,
Gang aft agley,
An’ lea’e us nought but grief an’ pain,
For promis’d joy!

One of the things I love about the Seventh-day Adventists is that they tell us we are all sinners and therefore cannot judge others. The only Being who can judge us is God. We are protected by the robe of Righteousness who is Jesus. We do not pretend to be perfect, or even close to perfect but we have faith that our sins on this earth will be forgiven on the Day of Judgement.
John 3:17-21
17 God didn’t go to all the trouble of sending his Son merely to point an accusing finger, telling the world how bad it was. He came to help, to put the world right again. 18 Anyone who trusts in him is acquitted; anyone who refuses to trust him has long since been under the death sentence without knowing it. And why? Because of that person’s failure to believe in the one-of-a-kind Son of God when introduced to him. 19 ”This is the crisis we’re in: God-light streamed into the world, but men and women everywhere ran for the darkness. They went for the darkness because they were not really interested in pleasing God. 20 Everyone who makes a practice of doing evil, addicted to denial and illusion, hates God-light and won’t come near it, fearing a painful exposure.21 But anyone working and living in truth and reality welcomes God-light so the work can be seen for the God-work it is.”

Now if I am wrong and you are right then I have lost nothing. I just die and turn to dust BUT if I am right and you are wrong – HALLELUJAH!
Off to play tennis and then play bridge. The busier I am, the more I do! and the less I have time to think about those who are wronging me!
I never pretended to be a saint but I did (and am doing) my best with the cards which I have been dealt and that is all that my Dad (and Mum) ever asked me to do
